Once upon a Time

Limited Edition of 50
Taj Mahal, Agra, India
Unusual image of this famous building
from across the river in early morning light
What looks like fog is the smoke from untold numbers
of early morning cooking fires, most with dried cow dung.
Photographed with Nikon equipment

How this image was made:
I decided that I wanted to make a picture of the Taj Mahal with the sun rising directly behind it. This means that I had to be at the right location at sunrise. I got up before sunrise on the day before just to check at what point on the compass the sun was rising. Then, later in the day I searched for a location that would give me that compass reading. This happened to be on the other side of the river. It became necessary to follow the river until a bridge was found. Then on the other side, I had to hike down along the river's bank until I found a spot that gave me the desired reading on the compass. I had found the spot to be at tomorrow morning!

The next morning I had to get up that much earlier in order to make it to that same spot. I made it on time, set up my tripod and waited, and sure enough - the sun came up in the most perfect location. The rest was taking a bunch of careful exposures and a lot of satisfaction for having been at the right place at the right time. Isn't this what photography is all about?
